Abstract

In the interview, Professor Chen Xinren, an internationally renowned scholar in pragmatics research, expounds on key and cutting-edge issues in the field at home and abroad, such as “identity studies” and “pragmatic research on marginal phenomena,” while briefly introducing the concept and history of pragmatics. He interprets emerging trends in pragmatics research, including “corpus pragmatics” and “ethical pragmatics,” from an interdisciplinary perspective. Subsequently, from a comparative standpoint, he proposes the theoretical construction of Chinese pragmatics, a topic of “localization” worthy of academic attention and discussion. As a leading figure in contemporary Chinese pragmatics research, Professor Chen places great hope on
technology and the younger generation, generously sharing his research insights and his dialectical concept of “inheritance and innovation.”
